City of water, of ocean, historical city, Cherbourg Octeville is located in the biggest artificial in the world.
City of the top of the world “translated directly from French to English” to say that the city is at the top of the peninsula of Cotentin, surrounded by ocean on the East, North, and West. Cherbourg will surprise you by its people their happyness.
Cherbourg is a big economical port, big sailing Harbour, Main point of arrival of the English and Irish to the continent.
La Cité de la Mer, located Quay de France, was until last century the ferry station, and has welcomed the most beautiful cruse ship ever, Norway, Queen Mary II, and Cherbourg was the last stop of the very famous TITANIC.

Napoléon inaugurated the transformation of what had been a rather poor, but perfectly situated, natural harbour into a major transatlantic port, by means of massive artificial breakwaters. An equestrian statue commemorates his boast that in Cherbourg he would "recreate the wonders of Egypt", though there are as yet no pyramids nearer than the Louvre
